Who are clinician educators?

Clinician educators are more than just skilled practitioners, they are the people who teach, mentor, and shape the next generation of doctors. They design learning experiences, guide trainees, assess progress, and embed evidence-based practice into everyday medicine.

For many busy clinicians, teaching can feel like “something extra†squeezed into a hectic day. But in reality, education is the key to sustaining our profession and supporting the future workforce.

Clinician educators bring together vital skillsets:

ï˜
Designing and planning effective learning
ï˜

Teaching and facilitating growth

ï˜

Understanding and applying assessment

ï˜

Driving excellence through evidence-based practice

They are the clinicians who ensure medicine doesn’t just move forward, it thrives!

Mentoring

Mentoring is a powerful, supportive relationship where experience meets growth.

Mentoring has evolved beyond the traditional “senior helping junior†model. Today, mentoring can include peer-to-peer, group, and non-hierarchical dynamics that foster personal and professional development for both mentor and mentee.

ACE is dedicated to developing tools and strategies that empower our community of clinician educators as mentors and mentees alike. For more information, download the ACE Mentoring Guide.

ACE resources

Through our academy, you will discover practical tools you can use to develop your skills in core areas of teaching in medicine.

The tools can be used by you as self-assessment scales, to provoke and inform reflection on your own teaching practices and skills, at the bedside, in small group teaching, or in a feedback discussion. You can also use these resources for a colleague or peer to provide you with insights in an observed teaching or feedback session.

Before undertaking an observed session, we recommend reading and sharing the strategies mentioned with your colleague.
