About the program

The Certificate of Women’s Health (CWH) is intended for medical practitioners who desire increased knowledge in aspects of women’s health that centre primarily on office-based practice, including shared antenatal and postnatal care, office gynaecology and family planning.

The program runs for a timeframe of three (3) months minimum to two (2) years maximum to complete the program logbook and examination requirements. Four (4) years if completing multiple programs concurrently.

Eligibility

You must be:

In your first or subsequent postgraduate year (PGY1) and either:

Providing shared antenatal care with a recognised facility, or practising in an established GP practice where a suitable training mentor is available.
An RACGP and/or ACRRM registrar in a GP placement where a suitable training mentor is available.
Commencing or currently undertaking a hospital appointment in an obstetric RMO rotation, generally for a minimum of three months.

Training requirements

To receive the CWH, you must satisfactorily complete all requirements outlined below within��two��years of commencement of training, or within��four��years if completing two or more programs simultaneously.

Trainees will be provided with access to the College’s training platform , a portal that allows trainees to access, record and submit their course requirements online.

In-training Skills Log

The in-training skills log is aligned with the Certificate of Women’s Health curricula based on the five modules below.

CWH 1 – Basic Skills

Maintain accurate and legible records
Ethics, medico-legal matters, cultural matters & communication

CWH 2 – Introduction to Antenatal & Postnatal Care

Routine antenatal care and management
Common problems during pregnancy and the puerperium
Neonatal examination and immunisation
Preconception and early pregnancy counselling, antenatal visits and examinations, normal pregnancy & puerperium

CWH 3 – Special Topics in Antenatal & Postnatal Care

Teratogenesis, obstetric complications and pregnancy-induced disorders
Initial management of postnatal depression or puerperal psychosis

CWH 4 – Introduction to Gynaecology

Family planning counselling and contraception, including subdermal contraceptive hormonal implants
Menstrual disorders
Sexually transmitted infections
Gynaecological examinations
Initial management of domestic violence and sexual assault

CWH 5 – Special Topics in Gynaecology

Common gynaecological operations
Gynaecological cancers
Endometriosis, subfertility & menopause
Initial management of uterovaginal prolapse, abnormal bleeding and urogynaecological problems

Training Experience Log

≥70 Antenatal Consultations
≥70 Gynaecological Consultations
≥12 Family Planning Consultations

Workplace-Based Assessments (WBAs)

WBAs evaluate your clinical skills during a normal working day. During a patient encounter or procedure, your performance will be assessed against the standards described for each criterion.

You may use the assessment of these skills as a formative process prior to having a final satisfactory summative sign-off.

Completion of Training

Training is complete once the program examination and logbook requirements have been met, and you have been formally approved by the Conjoint Committee for Associate Procedural Training (CCAPT).

Formal approval takes place six times a year in the following months: February, April, June, August, October, and December.

Training and examination fees

Training and examination fees are payable in Australian dollars (AUD), and are not subject to Australian GST.��

The Certificate and Procedurals program fees will increase from 1 February 2026: 1 program $1810, 2 programs $3620 and 3 programs $5430. CWH/PTP/APTP applications and payment must be received in full by 31 January 2026 to be eligible for the current 2025 pricing.

CPD and Membership fees

CPD fees are applicable on completion of the CWH and you become a Certificant Member. Your annual subscription will be pro-rata for your first year based on the date of completion.
