Amanda Henry is a researcher, educator and obstetric clinician. Her current main professional roles are as Program Head, Women’s Health at The George Institute for Global Health, Professor of Obstetrics in the Discipline of Women’s Health, School of Clinical Medicine, UNSW Medicine and Health, and Clinical Academic/Obstetrician at St George Public Hospital, Sydney.

Amanda has a particular interest in how pregnancy complications, including hypertensive pregnancy and gestational diabetes, can impact a mother’s ongoing health, and leads a program of research in this area. She is also an active researcher and research supervisor in the areas of high-risk pregnancy and pregnancy/postpartum clinical trials, and teaches pregnancy care to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Amanda undertook her FRANZCOG training in NSW and Canada, and has been a FRANZCOG since 2011. She has a long involvement with supporting the work of RANZCOG, including as a Trainee Representative 2006-2009, and ITP Co-ordinator, St George Hospital Network 2016-2024.

Amanda was elected to Council in 2021 and in the 12th and 13th Council terms has served in a number of roles including Research Grants Committee Chair and Deputy Chair (Obstetrics) of the Women’s Health Committee. She has also been heavily involved in RANZCOG advocacy on the issues of medication and device access and supply in pregnancy and women’s health and is passionate about improving access of women to medications and devices that enable safe obstetrical and gynaecological care, including through appropriate inclusion of women in clinical trials.

Amanda is also deeply committed to improving clinical guidelines, with past and current guideline roles including Chair of the Guideline Development Group for RANZCOG’s Pre-Pregnancy Counselling guideline, member of the SOMANZ Hypertension in Pregnancy Guideline working group, and member of the Guideline Leadership Group of LEAPP (Living Evidence Australian Pregnancy and Postpartum guidelines).

This is Amanda’s first term as a Board Director.
