- TV welcomes the Senate’s Inquiry into universal access to reproductive healthcare final report.
- It makes a number of recommendations, including RANZCOG’s call for a national telephone advisory service for contraception, pregnancy options including abortion and sexual health.
- Consistent and equitable provision of sexual and reproductive health services is an essential component of healthcare.
- The College regards abortion as a basic component of sexual and reproductive healthcare, and today’s recommendations will help breakdown barriers to help women, especially those living in rural and regional areas, access the health services they need and want to manage their pregnancies.
- TV looks forward to working with the Federal Government following the release of the report and will continue to push for consistent pathways through the public system for abortion and contraception care, including increasing training opportunities for the next generation of doctors. Public hospitals are the primary training facilities for health practitioners, and a lack of available training limits the workforce potential for the sexual and reproductive health sector.
