A revised version of the Accreditation Standards and Guidelines for Hospitals in the FRANZCOG Training Program has been approved and will come into effect from 1 February 2024.
This includes splitting into two separate documents: theAccreditation Process and Guidelines for Training Sites in the FRANZCOG Training ProgramAND theAccreditation Standards and Criteria for Training Sites in the FRANZCOG Training Program.
Significant changes to standards/criteria include:
- Splitting the content into a‘Process and Guidelines’document (page 1-19 of version 1.9) and a‘Standards and Criteria’document (page 20 onwards of version 1.9).
- Use of ‘Training Site’ in place of hospital throughout.
- Clarification throughout theProcess and Guidelines for Training Sites in the FRANZCOG Training Programdocument to make the accreditation process clear.
- Addition of cluster and satellite arrangements to capture different training arrangements (separate to a recognised ITP).
- Updated Curriculum section to reflect RANZCOG Roles and Advanced Training Pathways.
- Standard 2 “Appointment and Support for Training Supervisors” addition of new criterion 2.3.2 to address CPD mandatory requirements for DBSH and Cultural Safety.
- Standard 3 “Consultant involvement with and support for FRANZCOG trainees” updates to 3.2.6 ‘Roles of the Consultant’ to capture Mini-CEX and Multi-Source Feedback completion.
- Standard 6 “Workplace culture, registrar staffing, safe working hours, leave arrangements and assistance for rural rotations” significant updates to 6.1.3 ‘Bullying, harassment and discrimination’ to capture communication and awareness of policies (both internal and external) and link to relevant publications for reference.
- Standard 6 “Workplace culture, registrar staffing, safe working hours, leave arrangements and assistance for rural rotations” addition of criterion 6.8.1 ‘Employment contracts’ to ensure familiarity of the training site with relevant training program requirements, particularly with regards to restricting trainee movements via employment contracts.
- Other minor amendments throughout.

Accreditation activities undertaken up until 31 January 2023 will continue to use the current version (v1.9) of the Standards and Guidelines.
Thereafter, all hospitals accredited to deliver FRANZCOG training will be assessed using the revised version, for both progress reporting and accreditation visits.
