This Professional Certificate in Perinatal Mental Health (Foundational) will give you a foundational understanding of perinatal mental health and the key skills you need to support your patients.

Overview and outcomes

  • Screening & assessment: Practical guidance on using validated screening tools to assess psychosocial risk and support early detection and engagement in care.
  • Recognising signs & symptoms: Receive and introduction to perinatal mental health concerns, risk factors, and key principles of safe, inclusive, person-centred care.
  • Support in the antenatal period: Explore the emotional and psychological development that occur alongside pregnancy, antenatal risk considerations, and early intervention strategies.
  • Support in the postnatal period: Examine the common mental health challenges in the postnatal period, with information about sleep, physiological healing, supporting healthy attachment, and holding the baby in mind.
  • How to offer support: Learn the best techniques to have a check-in conversation with a patient.
  • Trauma-informed care: Woven through-out each module, consider what safety looks and feels like for each client by applying a trauma-informed care lens to the perinatal period.
