  • Consider what’s working well and any areas for further development.
  • Assist the Fellow in furthering their professional development and professional pathway.
  • Improve outcomes and service for patients, their whānau and the community.

Pre-visit Module
Visit Module
Post-visit Module

The pre-visit module (CPD available 4.5 PR | 2 EA | 0.5 OM) involves:

  • An online task ‘Self-reflection on your practice’, focused on your professional practice, practice processes, professional learning and communication skills
  • A patient feedback survey, gathering from a minimum of 30 patients feedback about your service and communication skills. A summary report is then shared with your visitors and yourself, and
  • An online meeting with your two visitors to consider and discuss the information gathered from both of the above tasks

The visit module (CPD available 6 PR | 3 EA) involves your two visitors meeting with you in your practice context. They’ll be offering a collegial review of your professional practice, practice processes, professional learning and communication skills by:

  • Reviewing your theatre lists from the last three months with you
  • Discussing surgical complications, any patient complaints (HDC or other) and workplace issues over the previous two years
  • Reviewing your practice surroundings, equipment and processes with you
  • Reviewing your records and systems
  • Interviewing 5 of your colleagues including a mix of junior and senior doctors, cross-disciplinary colleagues and nursing staff
  • Observing you in theatre focusing on team leadership; collaboration; communication skills in the theatre context; safety and procedures and the theatre environment.

Your two visitors will share their feedback with you at the end of the visit day, and you will also have the option of a follow-up online conversation two weeks later. A formal report will be shared with you following the visit.

The post-visit module (CPD available 2 PR | 1 EA) is the time to consider the visit feedback about what’s working well and any implications for future professional practice, professional development, processes and practice surroundings.

You will have an opportunity to:

  • Read the feedback report shared by your visitors
  • Discuss the report with your visitors if you’d like to
  • Detail implications for future professional practice, professional development, processes and practice surroundings
  • Reflect on these one year later
